Rite of Passage

On Saturday, July 9th Camdyn did something special:

2011-07-09_17.38.27[1]

I'd always told her that she could get her ears pierced for her 6th birthday.  Why 6?  That's how old I was when I had it done and I remember it distinctly.  I remember how proud I was of myself and what a big deal it was for me.  I wanted that for her.  I wanted it to be her decision and for her to have the same sense of pride and accomplishment about it.

We didn't make it to 6.  About a month ago Cam began begging to have her ears pierced.  She wanted to do it before Kindergarten and I kept holding her off.  Finally, I caved.  She met the biggest criteria...she really wanted it, and she was 5 1/2...close enough.

She had both ears pierced at the same time and she didn't cry or whine at all.  She still is pretty stinkin' proud of her pretty ears and she can't wait to change her earrings in 6 weeks...just in time for the 1st day of Kindergarten.

Awww, so cute! She looks adorable in them!!

Neither of my girls have their ears pierced either so, I think 6 is a good age where they can decided if they want to or not!

Good luck to her.. can't wait to see what she changes them to!

Well good for her - I don't remember how old I was. I do remember being 15 when I wanted a second hole and now I don't even use it.

Awwww. I love it! It is so nice when moms of girls wait and let them make that decision for themselves. Rylie's ears are not pierced, and they won't be until SHE decides she wants them pierced and has the ability to take care of them. I think 6 (or 5 1/2) is a perfect age! Cam looks so pretty with her new earrings!

What a sweetie! It's great that she will always remember the day she got her ears pieced. I do - Dad picked me up early from 4th grade and he took me to get them done. It's always a special memory!! :)

Adorable... you can see her beaming in the photo! I can't decide if I should get Eva's ears pierced now - so I can take care of them or wait.

awwwwww, how sweet that you captured this memory in photograph with that fun little bag and a cute story to go along with it! I actually didn't get my pierced until I was in my late teens so I too of course remember it distinctly. I think I am with you...my gal can get hers pierced when she is old enough to understand and want to make that decision by herself. How special!!

That's so great! I cannot believe she didn't cry. I think I got my pierced around 3rd or 4th grade and definitely had a tear stream down my face.

Lucky Cam! Mommy wasn't allowed to get her ears pierced until she was 10, and she was desperate for earrings!!!
