My Something Good this week, is something my Big. It's been over a year since I penned this post about my Father's struggles with addiction. I wrote that letter to him last April in a state of helplessness as I fought my own emotional battle between anger and sympathy. Shortly after I wrote that letter he landed in the hospital again and battled through a detox that nearly killed him. I visited him for what I thought might be the last time. He vowed not to drink again.
And, then in October we took our family to the "Norf" to visit fall, the apple orchards, and grandparents. I was ecstatic about all that had changed in him. He was once again the Daddy I knew.
The Lord has helped him fight his battle with addiction. His faith, his desire to be healthy, and his love for his family has persevered.
And, this week, we celebrate one year of sobriety. That is definitely something good.

I'm crying now...but they're mostly good tears. I am so happy for your dad, you, and the rest of your family. It is awesome that he made those changes in his life. Your dad now gets to spend more time with you. He gets to watch his grandchildren grow up. Cam and Chloe get to know their grandfather and have memories that won't fade away. Cherish that time. This is definitely something good!
That's awesome! My own father has been drinking for over 40 years - he has almost no one. We no longer resent him. There is just peace that we are all family and that will never change.
I'm so glad to hear he is doing well... and so happy for you and your family. What a blessing that he was able to make those life changes so he could spend more time making memories with his family :)

That is "sumpin' good"...I am so happy for all of you. I am sure it is something that is not only difficult on your Dad, but you and your family as well. Hopefully he continues on this path and a better relationships come from it.
