I did it

I ventured off of the AV mode and took a few pics manually this weekend.  This was my very first click! (And don't laugh at my flowers.  The torrential rains we had over the 4th, washed em out, and nearly destroyed them.  I'm trying to talk them back to health)

and then this:

and...

And then, since I was having so much fun exploring my camera, I decided to try out the timer.  I totally figured out how it works, but didn't quite figure out how to get everyone in the shot.  I love the baby head in the corner.

Happy Monday!

Woop! Woop! Good for you stepping outside your comfort zone. It's awesome to know your camera but many, many pro photogs shoot exclusively in AV mode...so don't be afraid to go back :)
By the way, your light is great!

Love the pics! Especially the first one! The lighting is beautiful!

I love shooting in manual. Unless I am in a situation where I need to get shots quickly (in this case AV works better for me because I don't have to keep adjusting my settings) I always shoot in manual. It's always fun getting to know your camera. After having mine for over a year I feel like we finally have a good "relationship". ha! Have fun!!!:)

Very nice. I love what you can get when you go off the auto mode - depth of field, soft features, point of focus, you name it. Kids are great subjects to learn your way around the camera. :)

Hey there! Great pics! I myself am too chicken to try manual. I'm always afraid I'm going to miss an important moment trying to get all my settings right. The hubs is trying his hand at it, and I'm always right behind him with my point and shoot in case he messes up. LOL I guess that doesn't make me very supportive, huh?

Hi Carol~ great to e-meet you! :-) Your pics are AMAZING! Just beautiful! A novice, I don't think so...your composition is GREAT! :-) Thanks so much for stoppping by my blog. I tried some macro shots on the post you were referring too - so much fun. A macro lens has definitely moved to the top of my wish list. :-) Your blog and pictures are wonderful.

Have a great Monday! :-)

Happy Monday Carol! I love these pictures! You did a super job. Sometimes I end up taking pictures in a different setting, not because I want to, but because my finger hit the button! He, he, he! Sometimes those are the better photos! Have a great night!
